Movers in The Heights
Free, No-Obligation Estimate
Raised Victorian bungalows, boxed-in 1920s stairs, and a protected historic district. Vickers moves the Heights on a flat, written price.
Moving in The Heights: What to Expect
The Heights is Houston's oldest planned neighborhood, craftsman and Victorian bungalows raised up on pier-and-beam with tall front steps, boxed-in staircases, and skinny original doorways, most of it inside a protected historic district. Newer townhomes have crept in with their own tight three-story turns. Either way the carry is the challenge, and we scout it before we load.
What to square away before a The Heights move
- Raised bungalows sit up on piers with steep, tall front steps
- Original boxed-in staircases and narrow doorways slow big pieces
- New infill townhomes stack three floors with tight stair turns

Alan Vickers and company has moved me several times over the past years. They never disappoint. Their packing and professional experience is excellent. They make a difficult job go quickly and without any surprises. You'll be happy.
I'll just echo what everyone else has said, they are fantastic. Extremely polite, punctual and efficient. Very careful with all my belongings and quick. Worth the slightly higher hourly rate. They were also so accommodating moving me from essentially Montrose on a busy summer festival Saturday. I feel like anyone else would have been frustrated or straight up walked away when my awful complex locked the big driveway gates, but they took it in stride and worked around the stairs to use the pedestrian gate. Definitely worth 5 stars and I will be recommending to all my friends.
Alan Vickers and his team are simply amazing. Alan came to the house and did a personal visit and evaluation of the best approach to move our 3-story, 2,700 sq ft town home. He was personable and responsive as well as committed to excellence. The team of movers showed up right on time as promised and Alan himself made an appearance to make sure my mind was at ease. Eric and his crew were the best I've ever worked with. This was my 5th home move over the years. Nothing was broken! They were friendly and accommodating. We came in just a hair over the estimated amount which I was fine with. I'll be referring them to everyone I know.

Questions We Hear a Lot
Do you move within The Heights?
Yes, the old bungalows and the new townhomes both. Local moves run on our flat hourly with a written estimate, and we plan the raised-porch and staircase carry ahead of time. When the move leaves Texas, we price it on weight and mileage instead.
Are you licensed and insured?
We are. Vickers Moving Service carries Texas household-goods authority and full insurance, and your job stays with our own crew start to finish, with no broker slipping in to grab a cut. We are glad to walk you through the authority numbers and coverage details, and we will review your valuation options before anything is locked in.
Can you do high-rise moves that need a certificate of insurance?
Yes, constantly. High-rises near the Galleria, Midtown, the Museum District, and the Medical Center expect a certificate of insurance on file and a freight elevator reserved for a set window. We submit the COI to building management, hold the elevator, pad the cab and hallways, and finish inside the booked slot so you are off the dock on time.
My Heights bungalow has a tight 1920s staircase. Is that a problem?
This is exactly what we do best. Those vintage bungalows in the Heights, Woodland Heights, and Norhill are raised on piers, with steep front steps, narrow doorways, and cramped boxed-in stairwells. We size up every turn, pad the jambs and railings, and lift or hand-carry whatever refuses to make the corner, just as we have done since 1993.
Will you handle the packing?
As much or as little as you want. Want the whole house boxed? Done. Just the kitchen and the artwork? That is fine too. We arrive with heavy-duty cartons and paper, mark every box by room, and once the truck is empty we will unpack you at the new place.
Can you move pianos, gun safes, and pool tables?
Yes, and our crew handles them week after week. Upright or grand, a loaded gun safe, a slate pool table, a family heirloom, or a framed canvas, every one rides the right board or dolly under proper straps and pads, and we build a custom crate any time a piece needs one.
Can I move or cancel my date?
Of course. Reschedule or cancel with at least two days’ notice and your full deposit comes back to you. Every condition is written into your booking in plain words, so nothing is left to guesswork.
